Communication in dementia – understanding, practicing, exchanging

Prevention & Care
Traurige ältere Frau wird getröstet

In this group coaching session, you will learn how to communicate effectively with people with dementia. Together with other family members, we will practice communication strategies and share our experiences.

People with dementia communicate differently – their statements, questions, and behaviors often follow their own logic. This frequently creates stressful situations for family members: repetition, rejection, misunderstanding, or frustration on both sides. This three-part series focuses on recognizing the true feelings and needs behind words and behavior. You will have the opportunity to try out concrete communication strategies, nonverbal signals, and elements of validation – always with a focus on what works in everyday life. The focus is on exchanging experiences with other family members. Participants bring their own experiences and difficult situations, practice in voluntary role-playing exercises, and receive concrete formulations and practical tips for everyday life. They learn to view stressful moments from new perspectives and experience communication as an opportunity for connection rather than conflict.
